I am so thankful that I brought my Mariner back home—I sold it 6 years ago after spending many years and long hours restoring it. This is an original style Mariner—I believe 1965, hull number 11573 sail number 382
However, it suffered neglect and I am trying to find missing parts and pieces. If there is anything that you have on the list below, please let me know.
All standing rigging has been damaged(if I had to guess, I think the previous owner left the mast and boom in the grass, and hit most of the stays with a lawn mower—broke one completely, bent others, or broke a strand or two of the stainless cable on others.
—I am in the upper peninsula of Michigan, about thirty miles north of Mackinac Bridge, and also have a relative near Mt Clemens Mi, and near Grand Rapids Mi that I visit often. Also a son in Fairfax Va, so I could pick up anything close..
Need:
Forestay
Backstay
Upper shroud port and starboard one lower stay.
Boom vang(it did not return with the boat)
A set of sails would be great—the old set may be original. I am trying to wait until I have acquired everything else before getting these, but still looking)
Front hatch cover. Maybe a bow pulpit—none currently
And maybe a few other miscellaneous things, but some boat specific.
Also, if someone could tell me the drain plug size next to the centerboard/swing keel?
Other things. I am thinking about trying swageless fittings to repair some of the stays—perhaps Sta-lok if I cannot find used rigging in good condition..
Longer story. I purchased this with my second oldest son, and we spent many long hours restoring the beautiful little boat. We didn’t have room to fit for overnight trips, so we regrettably sold it. I noticed it for sail online, and could not believe it was the same boat—left uncovered through several Michigan winters, a lot of water in the boat with aquatic life swimming around. All the cockpit floor was torn up(I had removed this, refinished, and replaced three stringers, so they were very good when I sold it years ago..:(. ). I shook my head at the photos and sad state, and tried to let it go, but my emotions and recollection of how wonderful it was to launch and sail got the better of me, and I brought her home. Thankfully, the cushions, mooring cover, and a few other accessories were stored out of the weather, so those are still nice. Also, in the restoration process years ago, I stripped the bottom paint, barrier coated, dropped the keel and clean all rust then resurfaced, and completely rebuilt the trailer, so the boat—even though neglected—is not in as rough of shape as when I purchased.
