All Mariner Class Association members, family and friends are invited. Participation with your Mariner is strongly encouraged, but members unable to do so are more than welcome to drive to New London to meet the group and join in the activities! NOTE: This is a rain or shine event. We’ll launch our boats at the state-owned, well-maintained Niantic River launch ramp in Waterford Friday morning and sail approximately 2 ½ hours to Bushy Point Beach in Groton for lunch and swimming. We’ll then sail up the Thames River in the afternoon to Crocker’s Boat Yard in New London where we’ll stay two nights. During the weekend, there will be plenty to see and do including optional tours of the nearby Revolutionary War Fort Griswold and the 1756 Shaw Mansion, naval headquarters of Connecticut’s state navy during the Revolution and rare survivor of Benedict Arnold’s burning of New London in 1781. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the city by foot as well as sail around the Thames River and Fisher’s Island Sound in your own Mariner. On Saturday night, after our traditional “Open Boat” hour at the docks, we’ll all walk to the historic Custom House Marine Museum, the longest-serving customs office in the country, where we will enjoy a fabulous catered dinner and explore the many exhibits and artifacts on display. We’ll eventually leave Crocker’s Sunday morning and head back to Niantic.
